This is a tutorial on how to treat your makeup artist [23 Dec 2005|08:55pm]
Taken from here. The original post is about hairstylists, but it also applies to makeup artists! So I changed a few words around . . .
.) Be descriptive about what you want and what you don't want. The more information you provide, the more likely you are to enjoy the end result. Pictures are the best way to provide us with information and avoid misunderstandings. Don't be mad if YOU miscommunicated what you wanted done. We're not psychics. One thing to understand about pictures though is that you may have a different eye shape/skin tone than the person pictured so the end result will most likely look a little different. We do our best to modify it appropriately for your face.
.) Don't be a jerk. If you don't like the service you received, be a crummy tipper, but stiffing people is mean. Most people won't even do that to a waiter or waitress, and the art of makeup can take time, energy and effort. So be respectful please.
.) Be on time to your appointment. When you waste my time, you're wasting my money. I could be taking other appointments that I otherwise have to turn down or helping other people. It shows disrespect when you come late.
.) If you decide to reschedule for an earlier appointment so you can get done sooner COME ON FREAKING TIME. And once again for emphasis: When you waste my time, you're wasting my money.
.) If you know you want an extravagant, detailed look, say so when you are booking an appointment. It can take significantly longer if you're going to a costume party or want me to contour your legs and arms. This way we can plan accordingly, and I will be able to spend more time pampering YOU instead of rushing and doing a crummy job.
.) DO NOT FEEL THE LEISURE TO DEMAND ADDITIONAL SERVICES. Do not come in and say your mother, sister and cousin want their makeup done as well. Because odds are, there is another appointment following you, and I cannot accomodate your request although I'll try.
.) If you want your makeup to match your dress/shirt/pants . . . whatever, bring it with you! I can't match a color I haven't seen.
.) Don't talk on your cellphone during the service. It's rude, gets in the way, and ultimately can result in your appointment taking longer than it should have.
.) Don't be a no-show. It is obnoxious and rude to schedule an appointment and not show up.
.) Don't call less than an hour in advance to cancel an appointment. Odds are I turned down other possible services because I knew I had your appointment and I wanted to be punctual. You're affecting my sales. Obviously sometimes there are emergencies, etc. But I doubt that's usually the case.
.) Don't act like you love your makeup to me, and then complain to my manager. I want you to leave satisfied and happy. Speak up if you see something you don't like!
.)Finally, if you really like the service you were given, be gracious, say that you liked it. Ask for a business card, tip well. It makes my day when people are happy and polite and friendly. If you think it's a great, tell me! Don't just sit there quietly. I may just think you hate it and you're just not going to tell me.
